Welcome!
Thank you for taking the time to visit our site. Since 2004, we have been organizing a charity motorcycle run called "The Ride for Hope" in an effort to raise money for The ALS Association.
What is ALS?
Defined by the ALS Association, "Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease", is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed." For more information visit http://www.alsa.org
What is the Ride for Hope?
The Ride for Hope is a charity motorcycle run that raises money to help fight ALS. After losing a loved one to this terrible disease, we started our annual run to help fight the cause. Each year, we hold a motorcycle run, followed by a party with food, music, a pig roast, and a rodeo. All of the proceeds are directly donated to The ALS Association.
6th Annual Ride for Hope- 9/20/09
The Fontes Family would like to extend our thanks to everyone who supported us this year at the Ride for Hope. Our 6th Annual Ride for Hope was a success, raising $9,000 dollars for the ALS Association. We'd like to thank everyone who was a part of this great cause: everyone who participated in the motorcycle run, every person and business who made donations, the RI State Troopers for helping us make our run safe and successful, Big River Inn, the band, and all of our family and friends who took the time to help making our run a success. We couldn't have done it without all of you. Thank you to all who participated. If you didn't make it this year, check out our photo gallery to see what you missed and we hope to see you next year for our 7th Annual Ride for Hope. Come back to our website soon to find out details on our next Ride for Hope. In the mean time, ride safe, and we'll see you next year.
